  • A: Group 1 Country: All Cats and dogs coming from a group 1 country do not require a rabies vaccination. However, upon arrival, if the dog is more than 5 months old, the AFCD at the airport will vaccinate the dog with the rabies vaccination and will issue a HK dogs licence.
  • A: Group 2 Country: All Cats and Dogs must be vaccinated with a rabies vaccination. The rabies vaccination must be more than 30 days old and not more than 1 year old. Upon arrival, dogs will be vaccinated with a rabies vaccination by the AFCD and issued a HK dogs licence.

Q: How long does it take to clear AFCD and Customs departments?

  • A: It is an estimated 45 minutes to one hour per department

Q: Is my dog allowed out for a walk inside the cargo terminal?

  • A: No, your dog/ pet is not allowed to walk inside the cargo terminal

Q: What happens if part of my pet’s documents are missing?

  • A: If the original health certificate does not arrive with the pet(s), the AFCD will not release your pet upon arrival until the documents arrive. Photo copies are not accepted.

Q: If my dog had a valid rabies vaccination before it came into HongKong, why does my dog need to be revaccinated upon arrival?

  • A: Hong Kong legislation stipulates that it must be mandatory that all dogs from the age of 5 months old be vaccinated with the rabies vaccination upon arrival.

Q: If my pet(s) arrives after midnight, can I still clear the AFCD and customs departments?

  • A: Yes, only if it is from a group 1 or group 2 country

  • Yes, pets can be cleared from the AFCD and Customs departments on public holidays.
